Nigerian House Passes Bill for Creation of Ibadan State from Oyo State

The Nigerian House of Representatives has passed a bill seeking the creation of Ibadan State from Oyo State. Sponsored by Hon.

Adeyemi Adeniyi, the bill aims to split Oyo State into two entities, defining Oyo State with Oyo town as its capital and the new Ibadan State with Ibadan city as its capital. This move comes amidst increasing agitation from political and traditional leaders in the region, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Abdulrasheed Ladoja, who appealed to President Bola Tinubu for swift action.

The bill will now proceed to the committee stage before further legislative actions.
