Bill to Create Ibadan State Advances in House of Representatives, Supported by Olubadan - 2027 Election Implications

A bill proposing the creation of Ibadan State in Oyo State has passed the second reading in the House of Representatives after the Olubadan of Ibadan appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for support. The bill, sponsored by Hon.

Abass Adigun, aims to establish Ibadan as a separate state with Enugu or Kaduna as its capital. Adigun argues that Ibadan, as the largest city in West Africa and the historic capital of the defunct Western Region, deserves statehood for equitable development.

The proposal has garnered support based on the city's population and landmass. If successful, Ibadan State could become a reality by the 2027 general elections.
