Biogas Technology: A Solution for Nigeria's Energy Crisis

Dr. Mose Fajobi, a researcher in mechanical engineering, asserts that biogas technology presents a viable solution to Nigeria's persistent energy challenges.

He notes that the current energy mix is insufficient to support sustainable development, as Nigeria heavily relies on fossil fuels, which are depleting and pose environmental risks. Fajobi highlights the potential of biogas derived from organic materials such as cow dung, food waste, and agricultural residues, which are abundantly available yet underutilized in Nigeria.

His research indicates that a combination of 50% cow dung, 25% mango pulp, and 25% Chromolaena odorata leaves yields the highest biogas output. He calls for widespread adoption of biogas technology to transform Nigeria's energy landscape, improve efficiency, and enhance safety.

Fajobi urges the government and non-governmental organizations to support policies that subsidize biogas systems, thereby reducing acquisition costs and promoting large-scale deployment. He emphasizes that adopting biogas technology can improve living standards, reduce economic losses linked to poor energy supply, and support poverty reduction, particularly in rural communities.
