CAN Urges Action on Insecurity, Commends Policing Bill

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a statement demanding urgent action on the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, coinciding with a day of mourning for victims of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. This occasion, referred to as "Black Sunday," honors the countless lives lost, including men, women, children, clergy, farmers, and students.

CAN emphasizes the need for the government to take the safety of citizens seriously, particularly as the nation commemorates Democracy Day on June 12, which underscores the sanctity of human life and justice. They commend the Senate and House of Representatives for passing the community policing bill on June 11, viewing it as a crucial step towards enhancing grassroots security and community participation in safeguarding lives and property.

CAN urges churches, Christian schools, and faith-based organizations to strengthen security measures and remain united in support of affected families and communities, while also calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek wisdom and courage in addressing the country's security challenges.
