FAAN MD Addresses E-Hailing Driver Misconduct at Airports

On Friday, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), addressed concerns regarding unethical practices by e-hailing drivers, specifically from Uber and Bolt, at Nigerian airports. Speaking at the Nigeria Aviation Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Lagos, Kuku noted that passengers reported serious issues, including intimidation and being dropped off in unsafe locations.

She explained that some e-hailing drivers would leave their vehicles under the pretense of being airport drivers and collude with car hire services to charge higher fares. Kuku emphasized that FAAN's responsibility is to protect passengers using airport facilities, not to influence the commercial success of e-hailing companies.

Regarding Uber's exit from Nigeria, she stated that it was a decision made by the company and not influenced by FAAN, indicating that Uber had been contemplating this move for some time.
