Nigerian Navy Empowers Military Wives and Widows

On March 8, 2026, the Nigerian Navy launched an empowerment initiative for military wives and widows at the Naval Base Abuja, coinciding with International Women's Day. The program, led by Commodore O.E.

Oladipo, aims to strengthen families and promote self-reliance among women of Nigerian Navy personnel. The initiative emphasizes the critical role women play in maintaining social and economic stability within military communities.

Vice Admiral Idi Abba highlighted the importance of this program in recognizing women's contributions to the morale of naval personnel. The initiative includes training, mentorship, and financial support to enhance women's skills and economic independence.

Dr. Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi, a special guest, commended the Nigerian Navy for its commitment to empowering women within barrack communities.

The program also aims to provide selected women with opportunities for financial and material support to overcome economic challenges, reinforcing the theme "Give and Gain.".
