POWA Aids 100 Widows in Gombe for International Women's Day

On March 8, 2026, as part of the International Women's Day celebrations, the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) provided support to 100 widows and wives of police officers in Gombe State. The initiative included the distribution of food items such as pasta, rice, and sugar, along with cash gifts of ₦5,000.

Damari Jame, the secretary of POWA in the state, emphasized that the initiative aimed to show solidarity and appreciation for the families of fallen officers, particularly highlighting the challenges faced by widows whose earnings are limited. Jame noted the significant role women play in supporting their husbands, especially those serving in security agencies, and called for continued support from citizens and the government to enhance the welfare of security personnel and their families.

The theme for this year's International Women's Day was "Right to Justice: Action for Women and Girls," underscoring the need for stronger actions to advance gender equality and women's rights globally.
