NIS Enhances Border Security with Italy and UNODC Support

On September 24, 2026, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officially launched a project to enhance border security through the deployment of 30 operational vehicles and 60 computers. This initiative, supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and funded by the Government of Italy, aims to improve the operational capacity of NIS personnel, particularly in remote and high-risk border areas.
The project, which spans 18 months, addresses critical mobility and technology gaps faced by the immigration service. Kemi Nana Nandap, the Comptroller General of NIS, expressed gratitude to Italy and UNODC for their support, stating that the intervention would significantly enhance the Service's ability to monitor and secure Nigeria's borders.
The Ambassador of Italy to Nigeria, H.E. Roberto Mengoni, reaffirmed Italy's commitment to assisting Nigeria in strengthening border management.
UNODC Country Representative, Mr. Cheikh Toure, emphasized the project's importance for Nigeria's security.
