Taraba Immigration Service Enhances Border Security with Tech

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has implemented an electronic border surveillance system in Taraba State to bolster border security and monitor the movement of undocumented migrants. This initiative includes the installation of nine surveillance cameras aimed at addressing security challenges in unmanned border areas.
The deployment is part of the third phase of the federal government's e-border surveillance project, which began in 2024. Mrs Saratu Ibrahim, the controller of Immigration in Taraba State, announced that the first two phases of the project have been completed, with ongoing work to expand surveillance coverage.
The current e-border infrastructure covers Sardauna, Kurmi, and Takum local government areas, with plans for additional locations. The cameras will allow immigration officers to monitor activities remotely from designated control rooms, enhancing the capacity to identify suspicious activities.
Mrs Ibrahim emphasized the importance of proper documentation of foreign residents and visitors for effective migration management and highlighted the collaboration with other security agencies in the state.
