Nigeria's Interior Minister Integrates 15 Million Migration Records

At the closing ceremony of a specialized training program for 87 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) held at the NIS headquarters in Abuja, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced significant reforms in immigration management. He stated that the integration of over 15 million migration records was achieved through the Border Control and Immigration Management System (BCIMS) in conjunction with the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS).
The reforms aim to eliminate fragmented databases among government agencies and ensure consistent information across the Immigration Service and other relevant institutions. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need for Nigeria to move away from analogue processes, given its population of over 200 million.
He introduced the Centralised Interior Management and Administration System (CMAS) to facilitate data integration and improve identity verification. The government has also established a data center with over eight petabytes of capacity and a solar power facility to support these initiatives.
Comptroller-General Kemi Nanna Nandap urged the trained officers to deploy the technology responsibly.
