Niger Residents Flee to Benin Amid Terrorist Attacks

In Borgu, Niger State, residents have fled to the Benin Republic to escape ongoing terrorist attacks, which have intensified recently. Reports indicate that 26 people have been confirmed killed in these assaults, with 200 terrorists establishing a base in the Konkoso community.

The violence has escalated over five days, with terrorists invading the area on February 12, 2026, and wreaking havoc until February 14. During this period, they burned down several houses, including a police station, and left many residents in fear.

The situation has prompted thousands from the Konkoso community to seek refuge in Segbana town in the Benin Republic, which shares a border with Niger and Kebbi State. Despite the severity of the attacks, Niger State authorities have not yet commented on the latest developments.

Additionally, reports suggest that a unit of state soldiers has reportedly arrived in Nigeria to assist in addressing the security crisis in the northern part of the country.
