House of Reps Urges Urgent Action to Rescue Abducted Children

On September 29, the House of Representatives passed a resolution urging the Federal Government and Security Agencies to intensify efforts to rescue 116 schoolchildren and other individuals abducted in Borno State. This motion, sponsored by Hon. Midala Balami (APC-Borno), highlighted the abduction of 44 schoolchildren and 36 others in Mussa and along the Buratai-Maiduguri road, as well as 36 students and 4 teachers in Lassa Ward, Askira-Uba Local Government Area.

The resolution noted that the 44 schoolchildren from Mussa were abducted on May 15, 2026, and have been in captivity for over 138 days, while the 36 students from Lassa have been held for more than 70 days. The House expressed concern over the ongoing threat to the victims' lives and the emotional toll on their families and communities.

Balami acknowledged the efforts of security agencies and local authorities but stressed the need for a more coordinated and intensified approach to ensure the victims' safe release.
