BPP and House Committee Strategize on Procurement Act

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) conducted a strategic retreat with the House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement in Abuja to deliberate on proposed reviews of the Public Procurement Act of 2007. Dr.

Adebowale Adedokun, Director General of BPP, emphasized the bureau's crucial role in ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in Nigeria's procurement process. He stressed the need to align procurement laws with current realities to foster accountability and value for government expenditure.

The retreat aimed to modernize procurement processes to address emerging challenges and strengthen oversight, aligning Nigeria's framework with international best practices to safeguard public funds. Hon.

Idem Uyim, Chairman of the House Committee, welcomed the DG's participation and reiterated the legislature's commitment to working closely with the BPP to deliver a modernized procurement law. The discussions included amendments to expand the scope of the act, shorten timelines for advertisements, and increase mobilization fees.

The retreat concluded with a roadmap for continued engagement and technical consultation to ensure the proposed revisions effectively manage public procurement in Nigeria.
