BPP Facilitates MoU for Renewable Energy in Nigeria

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) aimed at domesticating renewable energy manufacturing in Nigeria. The ceremony took place at the BPP office in Abuja and was attended by key stakeholders in Nigeria's energy infrastructure.

Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, Director General of BPP, emphasized the partnership's alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's mandate to improve the energy sector.

The MoU is intended to reduce import dependency, create jobs, and enhance local content in energy production. NASENI has developed a 1-megawatt mini-grid solution to be deployed across Nigeria's 774 local government areas.

Engr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, Managing Director of REA, noted that Nigeria has the highest number of people without electricity and highlighted the government's approval of a $750 million renewable energy program to electrify 17.5 million Nigerians through 1,350 mini-grids.
