BPP to Blacklist Contractors Violating Procurement Rules

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), led by Director General Adebowale Adedokun, announced a plan to blacklist contractors who violate procurement rules during an event in Abuja on Thursday, marking the 19th anniversary of procurement reform in Nigeria. This initiative includes the introduction of a debar policy aimed at sanctioning defaulting contractors both within and outside Nigeria.

The BPP has received approval to handle cases involving contract violations and fraudulent claims, enhancing collaboration with anti-corruption agencies and civil society organizations. A new policy mandates that ministries and agencies publish contract awards monthly and submit quarterly performance reports to improve transparency.

The BPP is also deploying a digital platform to automate procurement processes, reducing human interference. Furthermore, the bureau is prioritizing indigenous businesses and developing frameworks for women-owned businesses and vulnerable groups.

Dr. Emeka Ezeh, a former BPP Director General, urged the government to strengthen contract management and enforce sanctions for procurement violations to improve project monitoring.
