16 Military Officers Arrested in Nigeria Over Alleged Coup Plot Against President Tinubu

At least 16 senior military officers are in custody following an alleged coup plot against President Tinubu in Nigeria. The arrests, coordinated by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), were described as part of a routine military exercise to address indiscipline and breach of service regulations.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, is among those detained for alleged misconduct and disobedience. The coup attempt was reportedly planned to coincide with Nigeria's Independence Day celebrations, but intelligence agencies intercepted communications revealing the conspiracy.

The nation's security advisors and service chiefs advised the President to suspend the parade due to credible intelligence of a potential armed assault.
