Minister Yusuf Tanko Sununu Resigns to Pursue Senate Seat

Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, officially resigned on the morning of the announcement to run for a Senate seat in Kebbi State.

Sources close to the ministry indicated that Sununu submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the need to focus on legislative ambitions. As a medical doctor turned politician, Sununu's exit is perceived as a significant blow to the humanitarian sector, where he coordinated various social intervention programs aimed at addressing the plight of displaced persons across the federation.

He represented the Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski federal constituency in the House of Representatives and has decided to return to the National Assembly, suggesting a calculated effort to strengthen grassroots influence in his home state of Kebbi. The mobilization for support in his constituency has already begun.

The presidency has yet to issue a formal statement regarding a replacement for Sununu, and it remains uncertain whether a substantive minister will be appointed to oversee the portfolio in the interim.
