Appeal Court Halts ADC Deregistration Judgment Enforcement

On Tuesday, the Appeal Court in Abuja issued an order to suspend the enforcement of a Federal High Court judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) along with three other political parties. Justice Peter Lifu delivered the ruling, which allows the affected parties to maintain their status while the court hears and determines the appeal against the initial decision.

The move comes after the parties, including Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), argued that the implementation of the judgment would disrupt the electoral schedule set for June 20 in six states. The Appeal Court's order also noted that the judgment was delivered despite a prior order from May 22 that halted further proceedings in the matter.
