Appeal Court Confirms Nenadi Usman as Labour Party Leader

The Appeal Court in Abuja has unanimously dismissed an appeal filed by Julius Abure, confirming Nenadi Usman as the legitimate leader of the Labour Party. The court's decision, delivered by Justice Oyejoju Oyewumi, upheld an earlier ruling from the Federal High Court made in January 2026, which recognized Usman as the party's leader.

The court stated that there was no basis to reopen the issue, as it had already been conclusively decided by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which had previously nullified the Labour Party convention. The panel criticized Abure for abusing court processes and engaging in forum shopping, noting that his continued claims were in defiance of settled legal positions.

Consequently, the court dismissed the case and imposed a cost of N10 million against Abure. In response, Usman described the judgment as a victory for democracy and the rule of law, urging party members to focus on rebuilding the party in preparation for the upcoming national convention and the 2027 general elections.
