Bandits Kill Five Police Officers on Sokoto-Gusau Highway

On Monday night, suspected bandits ambushed a police team on the Sokoto-Gusau highway, resulting in the deaths of five police officers and the abduction of others. The officers were traveling in a Zamfara State mass transit bus, known as Bazamfara, to Gusau for a special duty related to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Zamfara North Senatorial District in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
Eyewitness Uzairu reported that the attackers intercepted the bus and opened fire at close range, leading to the immediate deaths of the officers, while the number of abducted officers remains unclear. DSP Abdullahi Faruk, spokesperson for the Office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 10, Sokoto, confirmed that the bodies of the deceased officers were taken to the morgue at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital.
An investigation into the attack has begun, with further details promised later. The Sokoto-Gusau highway has been a hotspot for banditry and kidnapping in recent months.
