Catholic Seminarian Kelvin Ochai Freed After Abduction

Kelvin Ochai, a seminarian of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo in Benue State, was confirmed safe after being abducted by gunmen in Asa III, Otukpo Local Government Area. His release was announced in a statement by the Chancellor of the diocese, Very Rev.

Fr. Joseph Itodo, on Saturday.

Ochai escaped from his captors on Friday, July 31, 2026, and made his way to Aliade in Gwer East Local Government Area, where he was reunited with his family unharmed. The diocese credited his freedom to divine intervention and the prayers of Christians, priests, and well-wishers who supported his family during the ordeal.

Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo, expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the efforts for Ochai's safe return and called for ongoing prayers for peace and security in Benue State.
