Presidency Responds to Obi's Call for Tinubu's Resignation

The Nigerian Presidency, represented by Bayo Onanuga, reacted to Peter Obi's call for President Bola Tinubu to resign, describing the demand as "childish" and a simplistic distraction from pressing political issues. Obi, a member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), urged Tinubu to step down due to perceived failures in governance, including worsening economic conditions, rising living costs, and security breaches such as kidnappings and violent attacks.

He referenced the recent resignation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer as indicative of accountability in a healthy democracy. In response, Onanuga emphasized that Nigeria operates under a presidential system, contrasting it with the UK's parliamentary system, and asserted that Tinubu remains popular among voters, as evidenced by recent electoral victories.

Onanuga also defended Tinubu's administration, citing economic reforms and achievements, while urging Obi to refrain from using social media to undermine the presidency and to allow voters to decide in the upcoming January 2027 general elections.
