Court Grants El-Rufai N100 Million Bail in Security Case

The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the amount of N100 million concerning an alleged breach of national security. The presiding judge, Justice Rilwan Aikawa, ruled in favor of the bail application following El-Rufai's arraignment.

The court stipulated that the former governor must provide two reliable sureties, one of whom must be a traditional ruler within the jurisdiction, and the other a federal civil servant with at least a grade level of 15. Additionally, Justice Aikawa ordered El-Rufai to deposit his international passport with the court registrar.

The ruling also mandated that he remain in custody concerning an independent corrupt practices-related offense until he fulfills the bail conditions. El-Rufai's legal team argued for his release, emphasizing that he would not abscond and is available to face trial.

The court adjourned the matter to a later date for the commencement of the main trial.
