El-Rufai Granted N100m Bail in Wiretapping Case

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, was granted bail of N100 million by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 17, 2023, in connection with an alleged wiretapping trial. The bail conditions include the provision of sureties, residency requirements, and submission of a valid international passport.

El-Rufai is required to report to the state service headquarters every last Friday of the month and must sign a register pending the determination of the case. The Federal Government initiated the case and called its first witness, a personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), who testified about the monitoring program related to El-Rufai's alleged wiretapping activities.

The trial was adjourned to allow for further proceedings. Additionally, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) refuted claims made by El-Rufai's family regarding access to food and medical care during his detention.
