Court Grants Malami Family ₦200m Bail in Money Laundering Case

On March 6, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, granted bail of ₦200 million each to former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, his son Abdulaziz Malami, and his wife Asab Bashir. This decision comes as part of their ongoing money laundering trial, which is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court mandated that the defendants provide two sureties and submit their international passports to the court registry to ensure they remain within the jurisdiction during the trial. The matter has been adjourned until March 16, 2023, for further proceedings.

The trio was re-arraigned on February 27, 2023, facing 16 counts of money laundering, to which they pleaded not guilty. The court's ruling followed a bail application filed by the defense, which was granted under strict conditions.
