Court Delays Judgment on ADC Leadership Dispute

On April 14, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja postponed its judgment on a case seeking the removal of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from their leadership positions in the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The case, initiated by Leke Abejide, a lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency, challenges the legitimacy of the current party hierarchy, specifically the leadership transition that occurred last year.

The court's decision, originally expected on Monday, was deferred for 24 hours, attributed to urgent official commitments. The plaintiff's legal team, led by Ibrahim Idri, is seeking to nullify the leadership transfer to Mark and Aregbesola, labeling the process as illegal and void.

Additionally, they are requesting a perpetual injunction to prevent the duo from presenting themselves as party leaders and to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing them as valid officials. The courtroom atmosphere was tense as various political figures gathered, awaiting the court's ruling.
