Court Dismisses Suit Against Senator Ireti Kingibe

On Friday, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, dismissed a suit seeking to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from engaging in activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The suit was filed by party members Okezuo Godfrei, Anayo Isaiah, and Ojonugwa Samuel, who alleged that Kingibe was suspended by the Wuse Ward executive for anti-party activities on March 10, 2026.

Justice Lifu ruled that disciplinary matters within a political party are internal affairs and do not necessitate court intervention. The judge questioned the validity of the plaintiffs' claims, describing the suit as frivolous and unfounded.

He invoked sections 82 and 83 of the Electoral Act, imposing a fine of N10 million on the plaintiffs, which they must pay to Senator Kingibe. The court emphasized that any challenge to the disciplinary action should be pursued through the appropriate party channels rather than the judiciary.
