DSS Blocks Supporters of Sowore at Federal High Court

At the Federal High Court, the Department of State Services (DSS) restricted access to supporters of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore on Monday morning. The incident occurred when DSS operatives blocked individuals accompanying Sowore from entering the court premises.

Video footage circulated online showing DSS officials confronting Sowore's supporters, stating that only lawyers were allowed inside. This situation arises amid Sowore's ongoing legal battle, which traces back to 2024 when the DSS filed a case against him for allegedly describing President Bola Tinubu as a criminal in social media posts.

The DSS argues that Sowore's comments violate provisions of the Cybercrime Act. Sowore has consistently maintained that his political opinions are protected under freedom of expression.

Earlier this year, a court dismissed Sowore's no-case submission, allowing the trial to proceed. Additionally, a bench warrant was issued for Sowore's arrest after Justice Moham Umar revoked his bail for failing to appear at a scheduled hearing.
