DSS Takes Omoyele Sowore Into Custody After Court Order

Tension escalated in an Abuja courtroom when the Department of State Services (DSS) took human rights activist Omoyele Sowore into custody after a remand order was issued by Justice Mohammed Umar. Sowore, the president of the African Action Congress and a presidential candidate, was ordered to be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre until Wednesday.

This development followed a ruling that revoked Sowore's bail due to allegations regarding public statements he made, which reportedly included referring to President Bola Tinubu as a criminal. During the court session, Justice Umar dismissed Sowore's application for the judge to recuse himself from the case, with the defense arguing that the absence of a single court session was not a valid justification for the bail revocation.

Sowore was taken away to prepare for his prison remand, and he expressed his determination to continue mobilizing support despite the detention, urging Nigerians to remain resolute in their quest for genuine revolution against oppression and injustice.
