Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar Dies in Captivity

Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has died while in captivity of bandits, as confirmed by the Katsina State Government. The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu.

The statement described the incident as a tragic loss for both the state and the nation. It was noted that despite relentless efforts by the state government and various security agencies to secure his release, these attempts were unsuccessful.

The retired general's death was attributed to complications arising from diabetes and hypertension, which he suffered during his captivity. The Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and emphasized the urgent need for a stronger coordinated response to insecurity.

He assured the public of the government's commitment to combatting banditry in the state. Abubakar was abducted on May 30 while traveling in Katsina State, alongside his wife, who reported that the abductors demanded the release of three detained fighters in exchange for their freedom.
