Ex-Bayelsa Governor Dickson Joins Nigeria Democratic Congress

Seriake Dickson, the former governor of Bayelsa State from 2012 to 2020, announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) during a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday. Dickson expressed his disappointment over the decline of the PDP, which he described as once a beacon of hope for the people but now in a "grave ill" state.

He criticized the PDP for undermining its strength and noted the party's internal crises that have weakened its position as a viable opposition platform. This decision comes amid growing concerns over divisions within the PDP, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.

Dickson's move is seen as a necessary step to advance his political career, aligning with a platform that reflects his current political aspirations. He was formally welcomed into the NDC, receiving membership card number 001, symbolizing his status as a pioneer member of the party.
