Federal High Court Opens for Pre-Election Filings Ahead of 2027

The Federal High Court of Nigeria has initiated the handling of pre-election cases as part of the preparations for the 2027 general elections. A public notice signed by Chief Registrar Yahaya Shafa announced that the court's registry division will be open on weekends and public holidays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to facilitate the filing of pre-election matters.

This decision aims to ensure strict compliance with constitutional and statutory timelines for filing and determining pre-election cases. The announcement comes as political parties across the country intensify their preparations for the upcoming elections, with several parties already conducting primary elections for gubernatorial, national assembly, and state assembly positions.

The ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has concluded its primary elections, while various opposition parties are finalizing their respective exercises. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set a deadline of May 30 for aspirants from opposition parties to announce their outcomes, although there have been expressions of displeasure regarding the results.
