FHC Opens Weekend Registry for Pre-Election Matters

The Federal High Court of Nigeria has announced the establishment of a weekend and holiday registry to facilitate the filing of pre-election matters. This decision was formalized in a notice issued on Thursday, signed by Chief Registrar Yahaya Shafa.

The registry will operate from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on weekends and public holidays, allowing legal practitioners to file pre-election matters expediently. The measure was introduced to address the strict timelines associated with pre-election litigation, particularly in light of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The court explained that the decision became necessary due to constitutional and statutory time limits guiding the filing and determination of pre-election disputes. This initiative aims to ensure that all pre-election matters are handled within the required time frames.
