FG Declares Two-Day Holiday for Eid-el-Kabir 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared a two-day public holiday for the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, scheduled for Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026. This announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and was signed by the ministry's permanent secretary, Magdalen Ajani.

The declaration underscores the government's recognition of the faith and spiritual significance of the festival for millions of Muslims in Nigeria and around the world. Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to the Muslim community both at home and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a sacred celebration centered on the themes of sacrifice and obedience to God.

He urged Nigerians to use this holiday period for prayer and reflection on the nation's peace, security, and progress. The minister encouraged citizens to uphold values of unity, brotherhood, and peaceful coexistence during the festive period and wished all Muslims in the country a peaceful and joyous Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
