BREAKING: FG Reacts as Canadian Court Labels APC, PDP as Terrorist Groups

The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned a Canadian Federal Court ruling that classified the country's two major political parties, the Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as terrorist organizations. The government described the ruling as reckless, baseless, and an unacceptable interference in Nigeria's internal affairs.

The court's decision came in an immigration case involving a Nigerian national seeking refugee status, alleging that certain Nigerian political parties have terrorist affiliations. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the classification is false and could be dangerous, spreading misinformation and inflaming tensions.

The government urged the Canadian authorities to retract the designation and avoid endorsing politically motivated narratives that misrepresent Nigeria's democratic system. Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism and cooperating with global security efforts, cautioning against misrepresentations for asylum or immigration advantages.
