BREAKING: Former Sokoto Governor Tambuwal Released After EFCC Detention

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being detained and interrogated at their headquarters in Abuja. Tambuwal, a political associate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was taken into custody on Monday following allegations of fraudulent cash withdrawals amounting to billions of Naira.

The EFCC's investigation focused on a possible breach of the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Act of 2022, with transactions during Tambuwal's tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023 under scrutiny. The former governor was grilled by the agency before being released.
