Breaking: EFCC Finally Releases Tambuwal From Custody

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released former Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal after spending 24 hours in custody. Tambuwal was detained at the agency's corporate headquarters on Monday, August 11, over allegations of fraudulently making a cash withdrawal of N189 billion while serving as governor of Sokoto State.

Sources within the agency revealed that Tambuwal was detained under the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Act of 2022. Despite being honored with an invitation by the commission, Tambuwal failed to answer questions asked.

He was eventually granted administrative bail and allowed to leave the agency's headquarters upon meeting the bail conditions. The release came amidst claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the federal government was using the EFCC to discredit and harass opposition leaders.

ADC's interim national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, alleged that the sudden detention of Tambuwal and an urgent request for information on the tenure of Emeka Ihedio.
