NUPENG Threatens Strike Over Dangote Refinery Dispute

A fresh strike looms as the crisis between the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Dangote Refinery escalates. NUPENG has threatened to resume a nationwide strike after accusing Dangote Refinery's affiliate, MRS Energy Limited, of violating a resolution reached with the Federal Government.

The dispute arose when Alhaji Sayyu Aliu Dantata, a relative of Aliko Dangote, allegedly ordered the removal of NUPENG stickers from trucks loading at the refinery, leading to a confrontation. Despite previous agreements involving government officials and security agencies, NUPENG warned against allowing wealthy individuals to undermine the law, signaling potential industrial action if the situation is not resolved.
