Gombe AFN Chairman Sues National Sports Commission and AFN Officials Over Alleged Illegal Congresses

The Chairman of the Gombe State Chapter of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Mr. Shuaibu Gara, has filed a lawsuit against the National Sports Commission, AFN officials including Tonobok Ojuru Okowa and Israel Inwang, and former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

The lawsuit challenges the legality of congresses held in April 2025 and December 2024, alleging non-compliance with the AFN constitution. Gara's lawyer seeks various declarations and orders, including reinstating the AFN WhatsApp group and compliance with the constitution.

The lawsuit cites specific articles of the AFN constitution that were allegedly not followed. The defendants are required to enter an appearance within 30 days, failing which judgment may be given in their absence.
