Kano District Head Alhaji Shehu Kabiru Bayero Dies

Alhaji Shehu Kabiru Bayero, who held the traditional title of Barde Kerarriya and served as the District Head of Dorayi, has died in Egypt. The Kano State Emirate announced his death in a statement on Tuesday, offering prayers for his eternal rest and strength for his family and the Kano Royal House.

The statement did not specify when his remains would be returned to Nigeria for burial. Bayero began his career in the Nigeria Police Force in 1970, enlisting as a constable and eventually rising to the rank of Commissioner of Police, with postings in Gombe and Osun states before his retirement.

He entered traditional rulership in 2006 when the late Emir Ado Bayero appointed him Barde Kerarriya, initially deploying him to Takai Local Government. He was later moved to Gwarzo and, in 2025, was redeployed to the newly created District of Dorayi by the reinstated Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.

Bayero's family has deep ties to Kano's traditional and administrative structures.
