INEC Finalizes Timetable for 2027 Elections Despite Delay in Amended Electoral Act Passage

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections. This development comes despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act by the current National Assembly.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, revealed this information during a meeting with civil society organizations in Abuja.

He noted that INEC has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly. Amupitan emphasized that the timing of the election schedule depends on when lawmakers pass the amended act.

However, he stressed that the commission has no choice but to rely on the existing Electoral Act for its activities, with details to be provided later.
