DSS and Army Foil ESN Attacks, Seize Weapons in Enugu

A joint operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army successfully foiled planned attacks and kidnappings by the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Southeast Nigeria. The operation, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, involved intelligence gathering that led to the apprehension of two ESN field commanders in Enugu State.

The raid resulted in the recovery of a substantial arms cache, including a rocket launcher, two RPG rocket-propelled grenade warheads, three RPG chargers, 11 AK-47 rifles, 18 AK-47 magazines, and 1,071 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additionally, two handheld grenades, a tear gas gun, and various NYSC uniforms were seized.

The DSS indicated that ESN members were using NYSC uniforms to disguise themselves for launching attacks aimed at instilling fear and creating insecurity in the region. This operation follows a recent arrest of five suspects linked to a kidnapping incident at St.
