Kano Governor Yusuf to Rejoin APC, Strengthening Ties with Bola Tinubu-led Party

Kano State Governor Yusuf is planning to rejoin the APC from the NNPP on Monday, January 26, 2026. Yusuf initially joined the APC in 2014 and won the party's primary election for the Kano Central Senatorial seat.

His spokesperson, Sunusi Batur Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the decision, citing the need to enhance political stability and unity. The defection is seen as a move to align with APC's structure and governance platform.

The APC state secretary, Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, confirmed the governor's intention to defect, with the APC chairman in Kano, Abdullahi Abba Sanusi, welcoming Yusuf's decision. The defection is part of a significant political realignment in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections, with 73 officials defecting alongside the governor.
