Kwankwaso Resigns from NNPP, Seeks Political Realignment

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State and 2023 presidential candidate, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) effective immediately. This announcement was made in a press statement released on March 29, 2026.

In his statement, Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve the nation and acknowledged the challenges of his decision. He explained that his resignation is influenced by the current direction of Nigeria's political landscape and noted the necessity for strategic realignment to better position political platforms that can effect meaningful change in the nation.

Kwankwaso also appreciated the support from the party's national chairman, Ajuri Ahm, and the commitment of the Kwankwasiyya movement throughout his time with the NNPP. He emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to build a better and more prosperous Nigeria despite his departure from the party.
