INEC Releases 2027 Election Timetable Amid Concerns

On February 13, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially unveiled the timetable for the 2027 elections, outlining key dates for voting, party primaries, campaign periods, and voter registration. The presidential and national assembly elections are set for Saturday, February 20, 2027, followed by governorship elections two weeks later on Saturday, March 6, 2027.

Bashir Ahmad, a former personal assistant on new media to the late ex-president and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kano, urged INEC to adjust the election timetable. His statement, previously shared on Twitter, reflects growing concerns over the delays in the passage of the current electoral bill, which INEC indicated was necessary to complete its work on the election schedule.

Additionally, discussions around allowing non-resident Nigerians to vote were highlighted, as the NEC boss spoke about the importance of diaspora voting in a meeting with residents.
