Minister Wike Confirms End of Rivers State Emergency on September 18

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has confirmed that the state of emergency in Rivers State will end on September 18. This announcement comes amidst the ongoing local government elections in the state.

The political crisis involving Governor Sim Fubara and the House of Assembly members seems to be settling as the state emergency is set to be lifted. President Bola Tinubu had declared the state of emergency, suspending Governor Fubara and appointing Vice Admiral Ekwe Ibas as the Sole Administrator.

Minister Wike assured that the elections are proceeding peacefully and that governance will resume at the state and local government levels once the emergency is lifted.
