Museveni Wins Uganda's Presidential Election, Extends 40-Year Rule

Yoweri Museveni has won Uganda's presidential election, securing 7.9 million votes, extending his rule that began in 1986. The election, conducted amid an internet blackout and civil society restrictions, saw a voter turnout of 52.50%.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Simon Byabakama. Museveni's victory comes after a close contest, surpassing the constitutional requirement of obtaining 50% of the total valid votes cast.
