Nigeria Police Council Appoints Olatunji Disu as IGP

The Nigeria Police Council has officially ratified the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP). The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place on Wednesday during a Federal Executive Council meeting, with President Bola Tinubu in attendance.

This decision follows the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The council's meeting was held at the State House and included notable figures such as Vice President Kashim Shettima and various state governors.

Disu, born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State, joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, and has risen through the ranks, holding critical positions including Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Special Protection Unit. His commendable service in the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos from 2015 to 2021 has earned him recognition for excellence in crime control.

Governors from different states, including Nyesom Wike and Abdullahi Sule, praised Disu's professional record and effectiveness in addressing security concerns.
