Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as Acting Inspector-General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially accepted the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun from his position as Inspector-General of Police, following a submission letter. President Tinubu expressed profound appreciation for Egbetokun's distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.

Egbetokun had served a four-year term, which was scheduled to conclude in June 2027, in line with the amended provisions of the Police Act. In light of current security challenges facing the nation, President Tinubu has appointed Tunji Disu, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, to serve as the acting Inspector-General of Police effective immediately.

The President expressed confidence in Disu's operational experience and leadership capabilities to provide steady focus and direction to the Nigeria Police Force during this critical period. Furthermore, President Tinubu will convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council shortly to formally consider the appointment of Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police, which will be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.
