Police Council Approves Olatunji Disu as New IGP

The Police Council convened on a recent date to unanimously ratify the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP). This decision comes after the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The swearing-in ceremony for Disu is anticipated to occur tomorrow, following a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The meeting was chaired by President Bola Tinubu and attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, various governors, and other key officials.

Governors, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, praised Disu's exemplary service and career achievements, particularly his tenure leading the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos from 2015 to 2021. Disu, born on April 13, 1966, joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, and has held various significant positions, including Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Special Protection Unit.

His appointment is seen as a strategic move to address security challenges in Nigeria.
